Dear Friends,
I was lucky enough to come across an etched copper printing
plate with the image of William Oughtred, who was not only famous for
his dialling expertise, (ring dial etc.), but also invented the slide
rule.
The plate is not dated, but is probably c1800, so it may not be
the earliest image of him. The caption to the image reads:-
Rev. William Oughtred.
From a Drawing by Hollar in the Collection of
The Rev. C. M. Cracherode.
I have arranged to get a few prints made from this plate on
quality paper, so they should be fit for framing. The plate size is
4.5" high x 3.75" wide. These will be a limited edition, with each
plate numbered. As you can imagine, this will be a costly exercise, and
therefore the larger number that can be made, the lower should be the
cost. At present, the estimate is around 20 Pounds, (32 US Dollars),
plus postage etc. Note that I will not be making a profit from these -
honestly!
I intend to make the print run in early January, therefore if
any list members are interested, please let me know soon.
In the meantime, if you need a 'thumbnail' image, please reply,
and I will e-mail it to you.
Best Wishes to all List Members for the remaining Christmas
period, and for the New Year, AD2000.
I sincerely hope that none of us suffer from the much hyped
Millennium Bug.
Regards,
Mike.
