For those on the list who have not heard it yet, there is naked-eye nova
visible in the west shortly after sunset.

The nova was discovered as a sixth magnitude star on 1 December in the
constellation Aquila and had already brightened to the third magnitude
on the following day.

The timing of this event is very appropriate, just as many of us are
going to celebrate the (approximately) 2000th anniversary of another
Christmas Star.
