I wonder if this thread relates to the previous discussion on the use of reflections from compact discs. A circular mirror with a hole in the middle... sounds familiar. What we need is a technique to modify the clear ring in the middle of a CD to capture "retrodirective reflection" showing the orientation of the sun.
The coloured diffraction patterns may be quite useful for communicating with alternate universes. I have found obsolete software CDs from Sun Microsystems to be particularily effective for these purposes.
