This is fun stuff you guys do! I have found a machinist who will machine me a sundial if I make him a design which he can build and sell to others. I laid out a sundial and started detailing the parts, and then it dawned on me, what better people to offer me a critique than those on the list? I would greatly appreciate any comments you folks care to share with me on this design. I was trying to make something that would work anywhere in the northern hemisphere. I do not know the names of the parts of the dial so I have made up some. I would appreciate comment on that too. I have put the dial in .pdf format on my web site.
http://www.angelfire.com/ca2/tech3d/index.html It is at the bottom of the list of links. Where the sundial joins its mount, there are three dials. The top dial accounts for the EoT, the next dial accounts for standard/daylight time, and the bottom dial (read from the bottom, the carrier incorporates its pointer) accounts for your locale's distance from your time meridian. (What is the correct designation for what I just called "time meridian"?) Thanks, John B
