A similar problem arose on another list I used to subscribe to and the suggestion was made that a 'drop box' could be made available into which contributors could place large files for communal access. I have no idea how a 'drop box' operates and unsubcribed from that list before it came into use - there was so much correspondence it took half a day to deal with!
