You can get brazing rod with flux 'attached' in little pockets rolled into the rod. If you had trouble with silver solder you'll have a lot more using brazing rod as the melting point is higher. > And how do you do this without burning up the brass? Paint the areas away from the joint with 'whitewash' - the cheap wall/ceiling 'paint' of yesteryear. They used in factory buildings etc. - it rubbed off on the clothes. There are products supplied for silversmiths to prevent 'firestain' which should work on brass. In UK 'Koolheat' was one brand. Good luck Tony Moss
