Hi fellow dialists,

Browsing the web for analemmatic sundials, I hit upon three such dials which
call themselves "The Sundial of Human Involvement":

At the Carter Observatory, near Wellington, New Zealand:

Australia:

In the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney, Australia:

I wonder where this name comes from. Every sundial required human
involvement for its creation. Ok, in this case, man serving as a gnomon may
put some additional human involvement in play, although another kind of
gnomon may even serve better. See Longwood Gardens, near Philadelphia,
USA: http://www.longwoodgardens.org/Tour/WestTour/WestTour.htm.

But why "THE Sun..."? Does anyone think it is the only one in the world? Or
is it the title of a classical novel, song, or movie that escaped my attention?

Any comments?

Kind regards,
