Another good source, with equations for several score projections but no
derivations, is "An album of Map Projections" USGS Professional Paper 1453,
USGPO, 1989. The late John P. Snyder was the sole author of Paper 1395 and
the co-author (with Philip M. Voxland) of Paper 1453.

Check out the book "Map Projections-A Working Manual," US Geological Survey
Professional Paper 1395, United States Government Printing Office, 1987.

It's considered one of the primary sourcebooks for map projection
information. It and other books on cartography are available from
http://gisstore.esri.com/

Subject: steriographic projection

Hello.

Can anyone recommend an essay on steriographic projection? In particular I
am searching for a proof that circles on the sphere are mapped onto the
equatorial plane as circles.

thanks
