Here's an opportunity to design a BIG sundial.

The south wall of the building where I work is a blank concrete wall eight stories tall and almost 2/3 of an acre (107 feeet high by 300 feet long).  I've always thought it should be put to some good use.  Now the US Department of Energy and the American Institute of Architects are sponsoring a design competition to design the world's largest "sun wall" here.  It can be photovoltiac, solar thermal, or a combination;  it could generate as much as 200 kilowatts of electric power.  And -- it should be "technologically advanced and visually exciting".

I'm sure there are some sundial designers out there who would want to team up with engineers and architects to make their design more "visually exciting" by incorporating a sundial.  (And the winning design team gets $20,000 cash!)

There's a lot more information available at www.doe-sunwall.org.
