Fer: I've never seen a sunpointer like you described, but I like the ide, seeing the photo from Amersfoort! I also forgot how far north you are! I'm curious how accurate the drive train is; do they turn the main shaft at "Gregorian" rate? (1 revolution for 365.24+ revs of the pointer shaft)
The shadow of the "gnomon" should always be a minimal rectangle on the end of the long arm's shadow. I would possibly have made the pointer tubular, so that it would cast a ring shadow, with the sun-spot always centered. Might be hard to size it though, so the shadow doesn't blur into invisibility, especially in the winter... Dave Bell N37.28 W121.96
