Hello all: Last week I volunteered to be chairman of the FAQ Answer Committee. As there were no other volunteers, I was concerned that the FAQs About Sundials project would die for lack of leadership, and I already have too much invested in this to let this happen. Besides, it's important.
Claude Hartman accepted me as chairman and Robert Terwilliger has offered to set up a FAQ page with answers on the NASS website. Since both Bob and I have another life with other duties and responsibilities, we will both be working on this in our free time. Neither he nor I want the pressure of timetables or deadlines. The project will be done when it's done! We will maintain a FAQ page, for the time being, on Dave Bell's Website (<http://dialist.webjump.com or mirror site: http://crosswinds.net/~dialist>). This site will only have the questions without any answers. I will periodically update this document with additional questions and other changes. I will also indicate those questions that have been answered. As answers are supplied to me, they will be edited by the Answer Committee and then forwarded to Bob for placement on the NASS site. The Answer Committee will come up with a list of the most important questions that a beginning dialist would ask and we will answer those first. There are 178 questions and 46 Answer Committee volunteers, that's only about 4 questions per person; not too bad really. Many questions are quite simple. Some only require a yes or no answer. So there are questions that fall within each person's level of dialing knowledge. I will ask each member to send me a list of those questions that they would be willing to answer. Then, eliminationing the duplicates, I will assign each person questions from his own list to answer. Answer Committee volunteers can ask to be removed at any time, I'll understand. And new volunteers will be welcome to join us at any time. Each volunteer will be able to work at their own pace without schedules. This is the last time I will communicate with the FAQ Answer Committee via the Sundial List. In the future, I will e-mail (or post) messages directly to each member. Occasionally, I will have to send attachments to my messages. If any committee member is unwilling to receive attachments, let me know and I will paste on or mail the documents instead. Please don't send me lists or answers yet until you get my next e-mail with instructions. I have updated the FAQ document on Dave's site with additional questions, category modifications, and a complete list of FAQ Answer Committee volunteers.
