Dear Friends,

These are most intriguing photos and I am delighted to see them.

Several years ago we were fortunate to have a partial solar eclipse visible
from our town during the school day. Knowing of my interests in such
things, the principal of the school asked me to show it off to the grade
school. We covered the entire south-facing window of one room, making it
quite dark, except for one pin-hole in a small piece of aluminium foil (to
make a crisp edge for the hole).

The children filed past the projected image of the sun, several inches in
diameter, and clearly saw the eclipse and (as I recall) some spots, as well.
We could move the music stand supporting a white paper screen to follow the
motion of the sun during the viewing time.

One interesting phenomenon did occur. Being in the room all the time, I was
partially dark-adapted and could make out two horizontal lines across the
screen. It was not clear what these were until a bird landed onto one of
those telephone wires, upside down, of course!

Just thought you'd find this amusing.
