Dear Friends, About 15 years ago I was doing some repair work for an old clockmaker. He had a small polyhedral table sundial in his shop. It was made of paper on wood, and it didn't look like much to either of us. I asked him how much he wanted for it, and he gave it to me. He has since passed on.
The other day I was surfing through the Epact site for material for the NASS Website, and I came across the same dial. It turns out it is a 16th century Florentine item!! Click in the picture for a larger one. http://www.mhs.ox.ac.uk/epact/catalogue.asp?enumber=42939&searchtext=sundial Had the list been interested in allowing commercial posts, I was thinking about offering this dial for sale here. Too late now. It is probably on its way to Christie's or Southeby's. Regards, Bob Terwilliger P.S. Search the Epact site for "sundial" - there are lot of fabulous old sundials there.
