The Leicester Time Trail by Allan Mills has now been posted at
www.sundials.co.uk/~leicester.htm. This amplifies the very interesting
talk he gave at the BSS conference in York. It also has a very informative
introduction on the basic theory of sundials.
This is one entry in the competition for new sundial trails, for which there
is a lavish prize of USD100. Details at www.sundials.co.uk/sunlist.htm
David and Dorothy LeConte won last year's competition with the Guernsey
sundial trail (at www.sundials.co.uk/~guernsey.htm) and were presented with
the prize at York.
There are now 25 sundial trails from countries all over the world: Canada,
USA, Ecuador, Australia, Malta, Poland, Italy, France, Netherlands, Spain
and the UK. Several have been translated into languages other than English.
5 of these sundial trails (London Thameside, Cambridge, East Sussex, Toronto,
and Poland) get more than 100 visitors a week, and many others get more than
50. They are therefore a very good method of introducing sundials to the
population at large, and thus helping the broad educational mission of all
our national sundial societies.
Writing a sundial trail is great fun to do! So please consider using a day
of the promised good summer to produce a sundial trail for your local area.
Or you can do one when you are on holiday.
All entries for the competiton will be welcomed. (Entries may be in any
language)
