Hi All,

Some months ago the whereabouts of Henri Moore's sundials were discussed on
this
list. I can't find right now who started the discussion, due to failure of the
archive's
search facility, but Willy Leenders and Thierry van Steenberghe were among the
discussants.

As the matter was not completely clarified, I e-mailed to the Henri Moore
Foundation
(www.henry-moore-fdn.co.uk/hmf/ ) and got the following response from the
Curator,
Ms. Anita Feldman Bennet. Thank you, Ms. Feldman!

The dial now in the IBM campus in Belgium appears to be the one that stood in
front
of the Times building in London.

Regards,
Frans Maes

Dear Dr Maes

Thank you for your interest in the sundial by Henry Moore.

Moore created two versions of the sundial:

  Working Model for Sundial 1965
  LH 527
  height 56cm
  bronze edition of 21
  cast: Noack, Berlin
One of these casts is in the Foundation's collection, while all remaining
casts are in private collections so far as we are aware. It is possible
that one cast, which was originally sold to Joseph Hirshhorn, may now be
in the Hirshhorn Museum. Another cast was sold Christie's London 23
October 1998 for £15,000.

  Sundial 1965-66
  LH 528
  height 366cm
  bronze edition of 1 + 1
  cast: Noack, Berlin

In 1966 Gavin Astor commissioned Moore to create a larger version for the
Times Building in London (New Printing House Square). This is the cast
that is now at the IBM building near Brussels. The artist's copy was sold
by Moore to the Adler Planetarium in Chicago and installed in 1980.

Yours sincerely

Anita Feldman Bennet
Curator
