Fellow Shadow Watchers,
As mentioned previously I've been making a full
set of engineering drawings for a Mk1 Pilkington & Gibbs dial for over a
year now. These have been largely complete except for the cam which is
at the heart of this ingenious dial. The previous example in hand was
badly worn and distorted so not worth the trouble of careful measurement.

Geoff Parsons kindly loaned a much better example following the York BSS
Conference and now the interesting task of making detailed measurements
of something that doesn't have a single straight line in it is complete.
The drawings of the dial are an accurate record of an existing example
and I've resisted the temptation to 'improve' them.

The cam measuring process adopted seemed interesting enough to record as
a small series of pictures and you can see these by visiting my website at

http://www.lindisun.demon.co.uk then clicking on

"Latest pictures of my finished work" near the top and then link to

"Work Currently on my bench"

It just remains to tidy up the arrangement of the several A3 sheets then
I can arrange to have them printed for .../.-/.-../. ;-)

Now that I have an near-exact cam profile the next job is to prepare a x3
template from which to copymill 'spares'. Believe me, having measured
the subtleties of the thing, I don't think I could face making one by
hand from scratch.

Enjoy,

Tony Moss.
