Fellow Shadow Watchers,
After a more than a year of tedious measurement and CAD
drawing, squeezed in between other dialling activities, I have at last
completed a fully detailed set of engineering drawings, using mainly the
British Standard 308 conventions, of a Pilkington & Gibbs Type 1
Heliochronometer. (bowl shaped base)
The drawings are full size, fully dimensioned, and are presented on eleven A3
sheets together with two A4 sheets of cam details and an A4 of an assembled
cross-section of the main mechanism. In addition there is an A4 sheet of
coloured photographs of a dismantled dial to confirm any points of
understanding which may not be clear to those who are less familiar with
engineering drawing conventions.
The complete set, rolled in a card tube, is available in the UK from
Lindisfarne Sundials at the address below for UK£50 plus UK£5.00 for postage
and packing. Please make cheques payable to 'Lindisfarne Sundials'. Orders
can be airmailed anywhere in the world against a cheque drawn in local currency
but, as bank commission charges and extra postage are required, would anyone
outside the UK contact me by email for a quote.
The drawings are of course my copyright which I expect all clients to honour
strictly.
A this point I must record my grateful thanks to Geoff Parsons BSS who made the
two dials, on which the drawings are based, available over an extended period.
I am also indebted to Graham Aldred BSS for sharing his in-depth knowledge of
this instrument on several occasions.
With apologies to those who find commercial announcements on the List annoying
