I'm looking for folks who live/work near one of two virtually identical
equatorial sundials in Colorado who would be interested in collaborating
with me to
produce some sort of virtual view (upload a time series of digital pix,
Webcam, or live Webcast) of either (or both) of these sundials during
the March Equinox. Theoretically, the gnomon (or style) of a properly
oriented equatorial sundial will not cast a shadow on the dial plate during
the
Equinoxes. I'm told (by a local sundial expert) that it should be
possible to observe the gnomon shadow move from the lower to the upper dial
face
of the dial plate during the course of the day. IMO, that's a pretty cool
way to indirectly observe the Sun cross the Earth's Equator--just need a
li'l help to make it happen! Any takers?

FWIW, I run my own Web server (T1 connectivity) and have access to a
simply brilliant tech guru who will happily provide whatever technical
support we may need. Here's the info. re: the two sundials (courtesy
NASS Sundial Registry, http://www.sundials.org/registry/):

St. Petersburg #224
Location: Veteran's Park
Remarks: Equatorial, stone. Brochure includes a sketch. Built by same
firm, Sundial Div., Erickson Memorial Co. Denver, CO, and looks
virtually identical to, new one at University of Colorado - Boulder Campus
(#172)

Boulder #172
Location: University. of Colorado campus, front of east entrance to
Norlin Library
Remarks: Large solid-slab circular equatorial in granite & aluminum.
Designed to be read from the upper surface in Spring/Summer, from the
under side in Fall/Winter. The hours on the under side of the dial were
installed backwards. The builder, Erickson Monuments, 1245 Quivas,
Denver CO 80264, is to correct this error. [Photo]
