Dear Membership,

A number of you have had concerns about vandalism on sundials.
Looking through the register it seems one of the most common forms of
vandalism is to bend or break off the gnomon. Some other dials have
been "modified" by local authority by sawing parts of the gnomons off
that they thought dangerous.

One of the solutions offered is to make the gnomons thicker, but that
will not work well with older designs that are not designed for the
thick gnomon.

Another solution that I've been using is to substitute a section of
"ridge" dial for the gnomon. It can usually be designed to both be
more rugged and safer. It can usually be retrofitted to older dials
with a minimum of inaccuracy.

Has any one else been doing this?

Also, thanks everyone for your inputs on Moon tracking!

Enjoy the Light!
