Hello Albert, in a way it is mandatory to know the latitude because it allows to find the value for the declination, which when set on the polar mount, lowers the field of view to the geosynchronous arc of satellites. Declination would not be necessary if the satellites were at an infinite distance like the stars effectively appear to be. Walter 50N 4E
