Dear Dialists,

The responses to my previous comments regarding the use of a section
of ridge dial to replace gnomons on more standard dials in order to
make them more rugged and harder to vandalize has shown there is a
general lack of awareness of "ridge" dials in general. The subject
is, in fact, a very vast subject and hard to select just a few
examples as "representative". So ... I'll write up a bit more on
them than a simple message and post it on a site to download. Bear
in mind that this is one of my busiest seasons so it may be delayed.

Another subject:
The various "off topic" discussions that erupt from time to time
would seem to just be evidence of enthused conversation where links
between enjoyable subjects are explored. To break these up into
tightly walled specific lists would not work well at all. Of course
they may clog the communication channel so that it should not be over
done either. It is a shame that we couldn't have a "broad" list
where such expanded subject areas could be explored without filling
the "narrow" channel list.

Another subject: New default reply on the list.
I can handle making a new habit for this list. It is good to have
the various lists be somewhat consistent in this regard.
If one looks through the message that is sent out by the list owner
every so often, there is an address to send to in order to get the
full current list of members names and email addresses. Any decent
email client should allow one to filter the email stream for this
list of people/organizations so that spam can be more easily
recognized. Yes, adding our email reply to our signature may be a
good idea, yet it would make it easier for spammers to bomb us as
well. Also, yes, it would be be nice if something like (sndl)
proceeded each item sent through the list so that we could even
easier filter the good stuff into a sundial list folder.

I really do enjoy this list, off topic subjects as well!!
