John Carmichael queried analemmatic dials on a slope.
John,
If you plot the analemmatic layout correctly for your latitude and
then lay it out on an imaginary horizontal plate you can transfer it a
point at a time to ground of any slope or irregularity by simply dropping
plumbline verticals from the imaginary points on your horizontal plane.
This is easier than it sounds if you use measured strings set with a
spirit level.
The moving 'gnomon' is then a true perpendicular to the imaginary
horizontal i.e. you don't have to lean forward/backwards to compensate
for latitude
I hope this makes sense but I have the usual 2D graphic 'proof' if not.
Unfortunately I'm rushing to prepare material for the BSS Conference
later this week so may not be able to send it for a few days.
Best Wishes
Tony Moss
