Hi,

I have been contacted by a company of landscape architects who are
contemplating a large dial for a current project. I advised them to consider
using a sundial design consultant, since they don't have experience in the
art. I volunteered to help them find contact details for consultants, so if
you're in this line of work and interested in this job, please contact me,
off list, by 26 April 2002. I will collate replies but then leave it to them
to contact you to discuss their ideas/plans in more detail, if they decide
to go ahead.

They want some idea of your rates, and a ball park estimate for the amount
of effort (days) that they would need to buy from you, plus contact details
and ideally a web site showing examples of your designs. They have ideas
about what materials they want to work with, and might, I think, want to
handle the 'artistic' elements of the design themselves, as well as the
actual construction. The help they would need would be in the technicalities
of calculating the dial lines/curves for the location, what precision to aim
for, handling EoT, types of furniture to consider, how to get the correct
alignment, vandal-proofing and so on. Things are at an early stage and they
are not yet sure what type of dial they want to have. I know they have a
they have a space of about 35 feet in diameter, and I am led to believe that
environmentalism / eco-friendliness will of relevance. I don't know what
budget they have for the dial project.

The intended location is White Lake, Michigan, near Detroit, but it may well
be that your involvement would not need you to go to site - it's all open
and subject to negotiation.

Cheers, Steve
