I visited a country house here called Snowshill Manor and
around the Chapel was the following :-
A wise man is like a dial
That being set right with the Sun
Keepeth his true course in his compass
He measureth Time and Tempereth Nature
He employeth reason and commandeth sense and envieth none.
This is attributed To Nicholas Breton (early 17th Centuary)
I can find the complete work that this is from .
