Kitt Peak Update: I've got very good news!
Yesterday, Bob Hough and I met face-to-face with Rich Fedele and Bob Wilson for the first time at Kitt Peak to discuss the Solar Telescope Sundial Project. I didn't anticipate their high excitement and enthusiasm. It appears that they've already made up their minds to proceed with a beautiful permanent sundial after we install the demonstration dial! They are already discussing different materials and artistic ways to build a permanent dial. They are sending press releases to the newspapers and TV and Sky & Telescope. And they've given us two cabins with free cafeteria passes from the 19th to 21st! They will give shadow sharpeners to all the tour guides and have asked me to give a talk about the sundial to the docent guides on Monday. They like the idea of a Noon Table with built-in sharpener. The cardboard model was a big hit! If a picture is worth "a thousand words" a model is worth a million! In fact, they liked it so much that they were talking about building a working scale model of the Telescope Sundial out of metal and placing it on a permanent table to the south of the sundial so that it gets sun all day. This table would have all the user instructions and EOT table or graph clearly indicated. I loved this idea. Now my big problem is finding two digital camcorders and volunteer photographers. But I'm working on it. John John L. Carmichael Jr. Sundial Sculptures 925 E.
