Here is a notice from the Secretary of the British Sundial Society giving
advance notice of a major conference that is planned for 2004. St Anne¹s
College, Oxford has been booked, and (subject to availability) the BSS
would like to welcome members from as many sundial societies and as many
different countries as possible.

The British Sundial Society continues to have great success with its
residential conferences, with just over 100 delegates attending each year
for the last 3 years. The format consists of registration on a Friday
evening with a lecture or two, lectures and a coach tour on the Saturday,
more lectures on Sunday morning, and many exhibits of dials and models
brought along by members.

There are book sales, the food is invariably excellent, and there is a
strong social element. The locations move around the country, generally
staying in university accommodation. The conference fees include all the
accommodation, meals, lectures and any admission charges. It is not
necessary to be a member of the British society to attend the conferences.

In April 2003 the location is to be north of Birmingham, and the format
will be much as described above.

In April 2004 (16, 17 and 18) the Society is returning to the location of
its first conference in 1989 to a college in Oxford. It is intended to
make this an International Conference and members of sundial societies from
around the world are being invited. If you would like to give a talk,
bring some dials, bring a poster session for your society, or just be a
delegate, please contact the Secretary as below. It is planned to have
nearly 3 days of lectures and events, including a private reception and
tour of the world famous collections in the Museum of History of Science, a
guided walking tour of Oxford dials, a banquet, and a large number of
exhibits.
