Greetings fellow dialists Long ago when I sold sundials by post I asked the client to note the time and date when the sun was exactly in line with the wall by watching the wall's shadow moving. This method certainly worked satisfactorily (allow for the gutter if necessary) as I was able to check on several dials. The time and date gave the sun's azimuth and the address gave the latitude and longitude.
Oddly, although I offered this method on many occasions to both men and women, those who subsequently ordered a dial were all men. Frank 55N 1W -- Frank Evans -
