Italy is a country with a rich heritage of sundials.
Sometimes beautiful old sundials are going to die, especially if they are situated in economically less wealthy areas.

In the past years Lucio M. Yushin Morra and Fabio Savian have carefully restored and saved 32 sundials in the mountain village B E L L I N O. The sundials, built between 1735 and 1934, had partly been in pretty bad conditions.

Hooray to the European Community for supporting this unique project generously!

Now the >Comune di Bellino< has edited a marvellous little guide-book of 45 pages about this unique sundial-project (In Italian language). The excellent photos of this booklet have been taken by the young Italian photographer DAVIDE DUTTO. He has also co-produced the splendid sundial book "Segnali di tempo Meridiane in Provincia di Cuneo".

If you want to get a first impression of the Bellino Solare - project, try to start at

I got to know that there will also be a book published about the Bellino sundial-project. It will probably be edited before Christmas. I will keep you informed about it.

Best regards
