Hello all:

I was wondering which is the correct or preferred way to draw the direction
of the date sequence on the date line of an analemmatic sundial. Which
would be better: a clockwise or counterclockwise direction? (see
attachment). Analemmatic date lines photos on websites are scarce and
rarely show the datelines clearly. The few photos I've found and both
Mayall and Waugh favor a counterclockwise arrangement, but Fer's program and
my design use clockwise sequencing. I really don't see that it makes any
difference. They both seem correct and functional to me.

But, someone on the list had these comments when he saw the design I did
using Fer's clockwise order:

"Doesn't the Earth's orbit go counterclockwise if viewed from above
(north)? Although certainly not a mistake on your part, I find it
jarring to see the months arranged in clockwise order. The "fault" is
in the viewer, but the clockwise progression is counter to my
personal visual time-line images, wherein March has a definite
location relative to August, next Tuesday has its place relative to
next Friday, and 3 AM tomorrow relative to 3 PM today."

Any thoughts on this?

John
