The process is almost exactly the same as for making printed circuits by 
photo-etching.  In fact that is how I began myself when teaching 
elementary electronics with printed circuits enabling students to avoid 
wiring blunders.

To describe the entire process of preparing Kodalith negatives/positives, 
for sundials, coating and exposing plates and the several approaches to 
etching would require a book rather than an email or, better still a 
video or CD ROM with movies.  Trouble is there would probably only be a 
handful of purchasers worldwide but I'll give it some thought.

As for materials I used electronic hobby products for years from e.g. 
Laskys and RS Components but companies such as
