David, At 16 deg N Polaris is clearly visible. I spend a lot of time in St. Louis, Senegal which is exactly 16 deg N and all the local fishermen use the pole star for night time navigation. The plough on the other hand dips below the horizon regularly. Heiner Thiessen.
