Analemmatic
Hi
John and all,
Thanks for the comments on the Elliston Park sundial. I was pleased to
see that it was featured on the cover of the latest NASS compendium. A lot
went into the construction of this dial besides the gnomonic design and layout
that I provided. For example the brass numbers, the horse shoes and the beau
soleil were special brass castings inlaid into the concrete. The seasonal
markers were developed after this dial was build but I hope to get them added
before the NASS Conference in August. Now that the NASS article has been
published I will sorting out where and how to post some pictures as I don't
have my own web site.
Cheers,
Roger Bailey

Hi Roger Bailey:
I just got the March Compendium and saw your
beautiful new Elliston Park human analemmatic sundial in Calgary on the
cover. It's in a wonderful park setting and will get much use I'm
sure. I like the sculptural presence of the hour posts with their
numbers and the shadows they cast. What are the numerals
made from? They look like they might be brass inlayed into the tops of
the hour posts. But where are the Bailey Points (seasonal markers)?
Did you design this dial before you discovered them?
thanks
John
p.s. I hope you get a good turnout for the
Calgary NASS conference. For those of you
attending the conference, I visited Banff last summer, and if you are
looking for a great, beautiful-beyond-belief place to stay before or after
the conference, try The Moraine Lake Lodge! (They have a website, but I
can't remember the URL).
