Hi John and all,

I have had an interesting experience with TIFF files. I often save the
output from my scanner in this format. The files are huge, about the same
size as bit maps (.bmp). When I view the TIFF file in Imaging Preview and
rotate the file, the new compressed file, one tenth the size is created. I
don't even have to actively save the file. The rotated compressed file is
saved when I close the program. I don't know how or why this works but it is
very handy. I now routinely scan things up side down so I can rotate and
compress them. I do not know if this is a lossy compression like jpeg or
loss free file compression like zip. If I send this file as a fax, the huge
bit map equivalent is recreated by the fax program.

Hi Dave:

The instructions in my new Kodak digital camera say almost exactly what you
said about saving originals in TIFF. I tried it, but boy, they are huge
files!
