That's a big syringe!  Is it for horses or elephants?

If the gnomon's diameter is .188" (or 4.8mm) and if you apply the umbral
fuzz factor ratio of 1/107, then the maximum distance that the gnomon can be
away from the dial face would be: .188" x 107 = 20 inches (or 510mm). You
could easily have a sundial that is 30 inches in diameter using this gnomon.
