You are one of the very few lucky guys who can say that gnomonists and navigators look the same way ;-)
I hope for you that this might also reflect in the software. A pity that most of the software makers hardly think about  you down unders, perhaps they should first visit you?

As one of those people who live in the southern hemisphere the convention of looking south does not work real well up here ;-))

When teaching students of architecture solar geometry I used to suggest the convention of 'Equator facing' to look toward the sun - this deals with both hemispheres. Now that just leaves the people on the Equator having to look both ways and up ;-))
