Hello all,
We received from Klaus Leckebush some excellent
photographs of an Iwan Kahn optical fiber focusing sundial, one of several
sundials that he made that use them. It is the December Sundial of
the month at www.stainedglasssundials.com
I won't go into an explanation of how it works
since you can read about it on the website in the Image Archive under Stained
Glass Sundials of the 20th Century, Dial 160.
Not only are these dials technological wonders,
they are exquisitely painted with intricate scrollwork and other
adornments. He also did a few similar dials that are just etched glass and
can be found in the etched glass section. (Check out Dial
196!)
I've been in contact with Mr. Kahn who is now 83
years old. He is sending me good photos of his other dials that were on
the Behrendt videotape which Dave Bell will post when we get them.
If you go to Dial 160, there are links there to his
articles that describe the construction of his dials more deeply.
