<x-rich>Potential EarthDialers:
In November I sent out the message below - here's an update. We plan
to offcially launch the central Website by the end of this month (I'll
send out a notice at that time). At this time it looks like we'll be
starting with EarthDials at the following locations:
Chile
Honduras
Spain
England?
Malaysia
Australia (1 definite, maybe 2)
South Pole, Antarctica! - US National Science Foundation research
station
USA - states of Washington, California, Ohio, Virginia, Maryland,
Massachusetts, Florida, Idaho?, Utah?
But the Project will exist for at least 6 months (I hope longer) and I
imagine that many more will join us once we're started. I've been
surprised by the weak response from Europe, where so far we have only
one definite EarthDial (from Valencia, Spain) and another possible one
(Leicestershire, England). With all of the gnomonic activity in
Europe, can I persuade a few more to join us? Those outside of Europe
and North America are of course even more "valuable"!

Fellow dialists:
At the Web site mentioned below, you can get full instructions for
how to build your EarthDial, which is a sundial of a standard design
(although allowing for individual variations, especially reflecting
local cultures) with a Web camera on it. We then will display
near-real-time images of all these dials so that one will be able to
look over a single Web page and see how solar time varies all over the
Earth!
So please participate in this project or encourage someone else in
your club or society or school. I'd also be *extremely* grateful if
you'd forward this information to sundial enthusiasts whom you may know
that live in "unusual" longitudes and latitudes.
Please look over the detailed, illustrated instructions, etc. at the
Website below, and let me know if you're likely to participate. Let's
make this truly a planet-wide project!
