I also have used a 3.2 megapixle camera for sundial hunting. I don't
find the
3.2mp to be too inhibiting unless I am trying to enlarge some distant
sundial
that the 3x optical zoom (enhanced with a doubler to 6x) still makes small.
This happens a lot when shooting dials that are inaccessible (high on a
building
or in a private residence).
The consequence is that if I could get a 10x optical zoom, the smaller
megapixels
are not a limitation. A good compromise would be 4mp with 10x optical
zoom.
I recently saw an ad for Kodak near your price with 6mp and 10x.
Happy Hunting! (sundials and cameras)
