Hello British Dialists:
I need help to contact BSS dialist John Wall to get
good photos of his new etched glass sundial (made by glass engraver, David
Gulland). Do any of you know him or know if he has an email
address?
Mr. Wall wrote an interesting article about it in
the December 2004 issue of the BSS Bulletin. ("Sundial for a Golden
Wedding") He lives at 7, Waydale Close in Kirkbymoorside, North
Yorkshire, YO62 6ET.
If any of you talk to him would
you please ask him to send me some good color photos for our Image
Archive? I'd also like his permission to make a link to a photocopy of his
article. My email and postal addresses are
below.
Thanks
John
p.s. By the way, I have a feeling he is not aware
of the SGS website because I caught a couple of errors in his article. He
refers to an old article by Chris Daniel in Clock Magazine where Chris says that
he had identified 36 stained glass sundials in Britain. This number is now
out of date and far below the number we have located. Including the new Wall
dial, we now know the British have produced 59 true stained glass
sundials and 4 etched glass sundials.
Also, he states that George Higgs and David Gulland
developed the concept of the engraved glass sundial (in 1994). Actually,
this is incorrect since we have located 2 Swiss and one Polish etched glass
sundials that were made in the 18th and 19th centuries.
