Greetings, fellow dialists.

 

The high places of sundials are nearer by heaven and so nearer by the sun, the natural place of a dial.

But I know a very practical reason for it. Imagine the clergyman, who must set the clock in the belltower. He needs a dial close at hand. And so there are many dials high above the ground.
