Times of sunrise and sunset are given on a dial in Groningen.
On that dial are declination lines for days with an whole number of
daylight.

At left you read the text De Opgank der Zonne
That is time for sunrise.
On the horizon line is the text De Ondergank der Zonne
That is time for sunset.
More often the lenght of the days are noted on dials.
On the Groningen dial you find that also.
In the center is the text De Langte der Dagen
That is the daylength.
The language is old Dutch

Greetings fellow dialists,
There are once again vague stirrings of a possibility of funding a
reproduction of the fine stone dial now lying shattered in the churchyard
in the little village of Ovingham, Northumberland, England. This dial, of
1804, like so many other old dials held to a church wall with iron clamps,
fell down when the clamps rusted.
An attempt was made to have the dial plate mended for the Millennium but
it came to nothing. Later a careless builder put a scaffold pole on the
poor dial lying on the ground and damaged it further.
I have a question. This dial has engraved on it a handsome table of the
times of sunrise and sunset for each month of the year. Can anyone point
to another dial so adorned or is it unique? The rarity of this feature
might help to persuade the authorities to advance the reproduction
project.
