Hello All,

I just thought that this might be a simple way to introduce
solid modeling (thru SolidWorks) to those of you interested
in sharing 3D models and who have not already experienced
some of modeling's capabilities.  I hope that it is ok to send
a 1.39K file size attachment for this initial trial.

I was able to create the cuboctahedron from its description
in about 5 minutes.  I can share it with all of you who want
to download the Free eDrawings Viewer.  The viewer file is
5.8 MB and available FREE at:

Being able to view the shape in any orientation allows you
to imagine possible uses, as in this case, I found it appealing
in form and at first glance somewhat useful for multiple dials
in that the 4 cubic faces still remain, but...  In the future I
might be able to provide individuals and the list other simple
models, but could not let toooo much time get involved.

SolidWorks is an expensive ($4,000) professional modeling
program but a student version is available much cheaper
and I believe that it does most all of what I use.

I have really enjoyed sharing some of my dial ideas with
a couple of you who have already downloaded the viewer.
It is possible this might open up a new way to share our
ideas.  Ideas are so much easier to create and share than
material dials.  For many like me, they are 90% of the joy!
Thank you and please let me know your thoughts on this
and other modeling programs.

The cuboctahedron is indeed a cube with the 8 corners cut. But cut to the middle of the edges of the cube. So leaving 6 sqares and 8 triangles. It is one of the so-called Archimedian polyhedrons.
