An "Azimutalspinne" (perpendicular gnomon) and a pole-style sundial (sloping style) indicate independent from each other the middle european time ( correction by the equation of time gives the hour lines an irregular form). They indicate the same time only when the sundial plate is directed north-south. Search the circle of the actual date and then turn the plate so that both systems indicate the same time.
This sundial has a sundial-function and a compass-function.

this Sundial is at the Deutsches Museum at Munich. At first I thought
it is a spider-type sundial (Sonnenuhrenspinne) - but what is the
second gnomon for?
can anyone explain?
