New Sundial Society in Switzerland founded ==========================================
On October 21st 1995 Ferdinand Muehlemann from Ettingen, a place about 10 kilometres south to Basle, founded a new sundial society called 'Sonnenuhrenfreunde der Region Basel' (SFRB). The societies aim is the preservation of historical sundials and to catalog the existing sundials. The members want to spread the knowledge about sundials, their construction and theory. Contacts to other sundial societies are welcome. Up to now there was no sundial society in Switzerland. Many Swiss dialists were and are members of the 'Arbeitskreis Sonnenuhren', the german sundial society. Although the name of the newly founded society suggests a distriction to the area of the canton Basle, it is intended to cover the neighbouring cantons as well and with a growing membership Switzerland as a whole. If one wants to contact the president, please write to: Sonnenuhrenfreunde der Region Basel Herrn Praesident F. Muehlemann Lebernring 4 CH-4107 Ettingen Switzerland N.B. Most of the Swiss sundials are catalogued in the book 'Sonnenuhren - Deutschland und Schweiz'. About 2200 sites in Switzerland and about 8200 in Germany are listed in detail.
