CADRANS SOLAIRES ================ L'Art populaire dans le Brianconnais: les cadrans solaires ----------------------------------------------------------
This is a booklet mainly consisting of two parts. First a reprint of an article by the French physician R. Blanchard about the sundials in the Brianconnais. This is the region of Briancon, Europe's highest city located in the Alps in the eastern part of France. The Brianconnais is truly one of the richest regions of the world in sundials (you'll find in every village several - it's incredible! - just by driving around once I've found more than 60 on one day without knowing where to look). Many sundials are described including drawings. More than one hundred inscriptions are given. In the second part a general introduction into sundials is given. This is written by gnomonist Yves Opizzo and Paul Gagnaire. The booklet has about 60 pages and is written in French. The ISBN is 2-9507621-1-5. The price is something like 10 US$. Publisher: Artissime - Yves Opizzo Artissime, 32 bis route de Montelimar, F-26110 Nyons, France You may also contact Monsieur Opizzo who lives in Germany: Yves Opizzo, Am Wasserturm 10, D-72401 Haigerloch - Daniel Roth, Arbeitskreis Sonnenuhren, Germany N.B. Artissime also sells sundials. They have a shop at their address in Nyon. N.N.B. If you ever come to Briancon don't forget to visit the sundial shop there. It's in the main pedestrian street in the old part of the city (the one with the water running down in the middle of the street). In the vicinity there is also a shop which sells hundreds of postcards which show the most beautiful sundials of the region.
