Some time ago there was a question in this list how to compute the Babylonian hours. Another time I received an e-mail with the question how to compute some other sorts of lines on a dial. On the internet I couldn't find a page with a procedure that was usable for both the northern and southern hemispheres. Therefore I decided to write these pages. I was helped by Piers Nicholson with the final text, for which help I thank him very much.
