Perhaps one of the easiest ways to obtain a very accurate time is to use a GPS
receiver, ie a satellite navigator. These receive signals from orbitting
satellites which have atomic clocks on board, and then automatically reset their
own internal clocks accordingly. Hand held GPS receivers are not expensive now
and the price is falling as they become more popular with walkers and car
drivers. They are cheaper than a good watch, and I'm sure that there will be
some bargains at the London Boat show this week. (I will write the cheapest
price that I see!)
And if you have a GPS unit you can find and store Latitudes and Longitudes,
which is very useful indeed.
Personally I rarely set my watch with the GPS, I just use the strike of Big Ben
after the shipping forecast.
