As others have noted, early morning and late afternoon sun does
hit a North-facing dial, in the Summer. Also, I don't recall
the original post specifying the exact orientation of the
chimney. In the best case, the faces would be aligned at 45 degrees
to the North-South line, and no dial would face due North at all!
