Thanks to Ross McCluney for bringing SUNPATH to our attention. I would like
to mention another program, MICA (Multiyear Interactive Computer Almanac),
which is an Interactive Astronomical Almanac developed by the US Naval
Observatory. This program computes positions, the rising and setting times
etc for celestial bodies including the sun with the same precision as the
Astonomical Almanac. I am using it in the field to replace a solar altitude
and azimuth prgram that I wrote. MICA has both a DOS based version
(PB93-500163LGG) which runs fine in a DOS window under WIN95 and a MAC
version (PB93-500155). The software is available from the NTIS, US
Department of Commerce, Technology Administration, National Technical
Information Service, Springfield, VA 22161. The cost was $55 plus $6 for
domestic shipping. One may call NTIS at 703 487-4650.

Of course, the Dialist's Companion written by Frederic Sawyer and Robert
Terwilliger for $15 is a very useful program which displays alt. & azi. as
well as a lot of other useful information.

I have compared the Azimuth and Altitude of the sun computed by MICA, the
Dialist's Companion and my own program and find very good agreement.
