thanks for your message. I hope that some my italian friend transtale this 
article into english language soon. The object you say in the picture is a 
little gnomonic instrument about the which our Alessandro Gunella wrote a good 
article in my magazine "Gnomonica" (see the text of my article).
Hope Alessandro can answer to your request better.
